About myself

I’m studying psychology because I think its object of study (the human mind) is very interesting. But in psychology we study more than human mind, we also study about human relationships, communities and human groups, culture, etc. Maybe, the right concept for the object of study of psychology is “subjectivity”.

I think a psychologist should know a lot of theory about human development, mental illness, learning process, psychodiagnosis, etc. But it also has to know elements of sociology, anthropology, education, health, history, etc. because human beings are so complex is difficult to try to understand them from only one discipline

I like so much subjects of my career. I like all the subjects that are related to psychoanalysis like Freudian’s psychoanalytic theory, Post Freudian’s psychoanalytic theory, Psychology  of personality, etc. But I like also subjects related to Epistemology, Social Psychology and Educational psychology.

Strike time

I’m on strike because I think I can use the time to discuss about the problems of the educational system in Chile and what we can do to try to fix it. But also is time to work in other task related with our education. For example, I’m working in a new “mini journal” named ARMA. In this “mini journal” we talk about the problems in our discipline (psychology), and we discuss about our academic training as a psychologist, etc.

In the strike we could make progress in our “mini journal”. We could write two articles, one of them related to the History of Psychology, and the other one related to a diagnosis about our discipline and how it would be the psychology that we want. We also planned different activities for the future of our “mini journal”.

I think being on a strike is not a reason to not study. Maybe you can study different things. And I believe that we can’t consider the content of the subjects as the only thing that we have to learn in the university. Maybe we can use the strike time to discover different things that are related to our social context and we can use that time to working on those things.

About Ken Robinson presentation

I like so much the speech of Ken Robinson. I’m agree with his ideas about how the educational system (I think he is talking about public education in USA, but we can extrapolate her conclusions to our country) kills the creativity of kids.

In his analysis he noted a fact that I think is very important to understand why in the education systems around the world there are the same hierarchy of subjects (math and language on the top, then humanities and in the bottom the arts). He pointed out that the education systems were made to supply the needs of the industrialization. In this way, education systems were made under the model of the university to supply the need of qualified manpower for industries.

But we can think something similar in these days. In fact, “innovation” and “creativity” are widely used words in business terminology. And some authors tell us that the most important resource in the global economy is knowledge.  So, ¿why creativity and innovation are so important in our time?. I think is because economy demands it.

I’m not saying that creativity is not important. I’m try to point out that if we said “develop the creativity and innovation skills of our kids” we have to ask to ourselves for what?. This way, we will be able to think an educational system for people and not for the global market.

About my presentation

For my presentation I choose to talk about Psychoanalysis and the theory of the murder of the primordial father by the primordial horde as the possible beginning of our civilization.
I choose this theory because I like psychoanalysis so much, and I think the theory of the primordial horde is an interesting approach to try to explain some aspects related with the human behavior like the horror of incest. But the theory also explains some issues about the relation of our culture and the structure of our mind, like the moral thinking and angst feelings.

I think the presentation was ok, and I would not change anything.

The most interesting point of view of this theory is that it considered the culture as a fundamental aspect in the development of human mind. In this way, this theory included a social approach to explain our mind. I think this approach in the study of human mind could be interesting because is more complex than other theories that consider only biological aspects in the development of human mind.
I think it was one of the greatest contributions of Sigmund Freud’s theories.

About Santiago

Unlike some people, I like Santiago city. I like above all Ñuñoa, Providencia and Santiago´s center. I like these areas because in Ñuñoa and Providencia there are a lot of beautiful parks and the streets are surrounded of big trees, and sidewalks are wide and well lighting. The parks in this area are my favorites, above all Sculpture´s Park in Providencia.

In Santiago´s center there are a lot of historical places like Londres 38, that was a torture center in dictatorial period of Chile, or the house of government, etc. Also there are a lot of bars, restaurants, different kind of shops, etc.

Well, there are horrible things too, like inequality, smog, traffic issues and other social problems like drug trafficking, poverty, etc.

Inequality is the social problem that I hate most in Santiago. We can say that Santiago is a city of ghettos, because the areas in the city are so demarcate by social status and money. In Santiago there are areas for poor class, middle class, and hight class. But this situation only shows the kind of society that we are. I think it is not a problem of the city, is a problem of our society.
I think those are the things that we have to change of our city, but first we have to change society.

My ambition (or one of them)

One of my ambitions is travel to Perú and visit Machu Pichu. Last summer I traveld to Bolivia and Perú, and the plan was visit Bolivia in first place, and then visit Cusco, Perú to realize the trip to Machu but I could only visit Cusco, because I stayed a few days more in Bolivia and spent more money than I expected, so, I decided to visit Sacred Valley, in Cusco which is a cheeper journey than Machu Pichu trip. So, travel to Machu is a kind of debt to me, because I wanted to visit so much that wonderful place and I couldn’t do it.
I would like to travel to Machu because I like to visit historical places, like ruins and know about Inca civilization that was one of the most important civilizations in the “new world”.
Now I’m saving money to realize this trip in the next summer, but this time the first place that I’m going to visit will be Machu Pichu.

Favourite song at the moment

One of the songs that I like at the moment is “The pretender” of Foo Fighters. It is a very powerful song, and I like so much.
The first time that I heard it was a month ago, when I was listening in You Tube another song of this band named “These Days”.
I heard “These Days” while I was driving the car of my grandfather. I didn’t know Foo Fighters before that, so the song started and I think “these guys are good”. I remember that Rock and Pop radio always plays the song so I always tune in that radio station. One day I decided to search more songs of Foo Fighters in You Tube and I found “The Pretender”.
“The Pretender” liked to me instantly, because is very powerful song and I like so much the sound of the guitars and the drum. Generally, when I listen English music I don’t pay attention to lyrics, because I like most about it are rhythms and how it sounds. So, that’s the reason that I like that much “The pretender”, its sounds is amazing.

If you want also hear These Days, here is the song:
